V.E. DAY 8th May 2020
21st April 2020
Dear all
With no end to the lock down in sight and potentially even after the current
level of restrictions are relaxed, there may well still be some level of
control on interactivity within society. People are getting very creative
with ideas for overcoming the lack of social interactivity and celebrations;
I was wondering therefore about the forthcoming 75 year anniversary of VE
day. We had planned all sorts of things and it had promised to be a fund
weekend of celebrations. What if......
What if we still had our garden parties, each in our own gardens. What if we
filmed this and put our pictures on facebook on our village news sites or
even came together on Zoom. What if we all flew Union Jack flags and perhaps
a little period music played quietly in our gardens. What if we all did this
at the same time, say 4:00pm afternoon tea, Friday 8th May 2020. We could
wear our parents memorabilia if we have it. We could ring the church bells
and fly a flag from the top. So long as it was all done just within the
household unit or within social distancing guidelines. We are allowed a
little exercise so we could leave a tribute at the war memorial, wearing
gloves etc of course.
Is there any appetite at all for celebrating or just marking this key date in
the Parish? We could bring our own gardens to life with an afternoon tea with
a photo of a loved one from 1945 on the table.
